I don’t know what’s the name of these two magnificent structures at the foot of Jones Bridge in Binondo.

These two buildings are now unoccupied. Perhaps, its just waiting to be demolished by the Manila City government.

Thanks Ramil for the info! :-) Do you know how old is that building?

i am enjoying all of the historic photos of Manila
and am saddened by the lack of appreciation of the history of this once beautiful city. We are trying in our own way to preserve the past.

The El Hogar building was built in 1913 as a 3 storey building the 4th floor was added in the 1920s. The building on the right is the old HSBC building if am not mistaken it is called Pacific Commercial bldg.

The one on the left is El Hogar. The other building is the Pacific Commercial Building, built in 1922. It was also known as the office of the First National City Bank of New York (now Citibank). It is different from the HSBC building (w/c I think is at the side of El Hogar, the building right next to it)

I always admire the beautiful architecture of those buildings whenever I go to Binondo. I hope the Manila City government would find a way to preserve those. If not, it’s going to be another missing piece of history. :(
